Alameda, Northern California – Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. formally accepted the transfer of a Hamilton-class cutter to the Philippine Navy during official ceremonies held today at the Coast Guard Island in Alameda, Northern California. The Ambassador was accompanied at the ceremony by Consul General Marciano A. Paynor, Jr., Captain Antonio A. Habulan of the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC, and Col. Edwin Erni of the Philippine National Police Office in San Francisco.


Vice Admiral Manson Brown, Commander of the US Coast Guard Pacific Area, represented the United States during the turnover ceremony.


The Hamilton-class cutter was obtained by the Philippine government under the Foreign Sales Military Program of the United States government. The acquisition of the ship is expected to enhance the capabilities of the Philippine Navy. A multi-mission vessel, the ship is expected to conduct search and rescue, maritime security patrols, and maritime law enforcement in the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone. END.
