20/05/2010: PHILIPPINE FOOD FESTIVAL LAUNCHED
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco announced today the launching of the Philippine Food Festival at the Philippine Center in San Francisco. The event was a kick-off activity of a culinary festival, showcasing the best of Philippine cuisine among fifteen (15) participating restaurants in Northern California during the whole month of June 2010.
At the launch, Consul General Marciano A. Paynor, Jr. congratulated the restaurants for teaming up to promote the Philippines and expressed his deep appreciation to sponsors that provided assistance to this festival. “It is high time that we show San Francisco and the Bay Area our world-class cuisine. The variety of versions of our famous Filipino foods is reflective of the diversity of what we can offer and the creativity emanating from our culture. Let us celebrate our rich cultural heritage and enjoy our unique cuisine at this festival,” Consul General Paynor remarked.
The Philippine Food Festival seeks to elevate the awareness of the public on the Philippines’ various food specialties and encourage them to patronize Filipino restaurants. Diners in the participating restaurants will get a chance to win exciting prizes and gift items. More prizes await the patrons who take unique photos of their favorite dish (taken at these participating food establishments) and upload it to the Philippine Food Festival Facebook page.
The Philippine Consulate General invites residents in California and other neighboring states to come and savor the flavors and spices of the Philippines’ 7,107 islands at the following restaurants: Bistro Luneta, Boracay Garden Grill and Asian Cuisine, Goldilocks, House of Sisig, Intramuros, Jollibee, Kalesa, Mana, Nayong Filipino, Max’s of Manila, Ongpin, Patio Filipino, Red Ribbon, Tastebuds, and Tribu Grill.
Organized in commemoration of the 112th Anniversary of Philippine Independence, the Festival will be the take-off program to entice more Americans to visit the Philippines and participate in the Kulinarya Food Trips. Designed by the Department of Tourism, the Kulinary Food Trip tours will allow participants to experience the rich culinary heritage of the country.
