The grand and beautiful setting of the commemoration of Filipino  American History Month,  San Francisco City Hall’s  Rotunda.  

Set at the grand and beautiful setting of City Hall Rotunda, the Office of the Mayor of San Francisco  together with ABS CBN International’s TFC (The Filipino Channel)  and the President of the Board of Education of San Francisco,    in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General held a program and reception to commemorate  Filipino American History Month at San Francisco’s City Hall, Monday, 25 October 2011.

The commemorative event celebrated and  honored the  various milestones realized by  the Filipino American community in 2011.   Milestones that became community benchmarks it terms of achievements and significant impact for  members of the community. 

It began with remarks from Consul General Marciano A. Paynor who introduced  San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee.  Other co-hosts of the event Honorable  Hydra Mendoza, President of  San Francisco’s School Board, and the highest ranking and only elected Filipino elected official of San Francisco, and Ms Kai Rodriguez,  Chief Financial Officer of ABS CBN also spoke during the program.

The Mayor likewise presented a City Proclamation declaring October as Filipino American History Month  in San Francisco  to  Consul General Paynor  together with Ms. Kai Rodriguez of ABS CBN.

Certificates of Honor from the Mayor were given out to various institutions giving recognition to  milestones  they have achieved for the Filipino American community for the year 2011.  These were 1) 50 years of  Philippine News 2) Filipina Women’s Network recent successful holding of the FWN National Summit   in San Francisco   3) Bay Area American Fashion Week   for the 1st ever celebration of Filipino American fashion   4)  50 years of  Philippine Nurses Association of Northern California (PNANC)    6) 1st ever Filipino American Book Festival which was organized by Literary Initiatives International Foundation (LIIF).   7)  Filipino American Arts Exposition’s (FAAE) record breaking attendance this year with 18 years of successfully holding the iconic PISTAHAN Parade and Festival.   8)  50 years of San Francisco-Manila Sister City Committee.

Added highlight of the evening was a special mini fashion show  preview from Bay Area Fashion week  and  songs by Youtube celebrity and recording artist Michelle Martinez as well as reception that featured an array of Philippine inspired delicacies and drinks provided by various Filipino restaurants and caterers in the Bay Area.  END
