16/06/2010: CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO COMMEMORATES PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY

The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco together with the City of San Francisco commemorated the 112th Declaration of Philippine Independence on June 14 at the City Hall of San Francisco.

The commemoration was marked with a flag-raising ceremony at the City Hall.

The Philippine flag flies proudly in San Francisco.

Representing the Office of the Mayor, Chief of Protocol Charlotte Mailliard Shultz who was herself wearing a barong recognized the contributions of the Filipino-American community to the vibrancy of the city.  She also presented the community with the Proclamation of the City of San Francisco celebrating the Philippine Independence Day.

 

Consul General Marciano A. Paynor, Jr. thanked Ms. Shultz for the city’s recognition of the importance of Philippine Independence Day.  He also assured the San Francisco government of the continuous positive contribution of the Filipino-American community to the city.

 

The Philippine Consulate General thanked the San Franciso-Manila Sister City Committee (SFMSCC) and Kababayans in San Francisco for organizing the celebration with the City of Francisco.  In particular, Mr. Dennis Normandy, Chair of the SFMSCC, was instrumental in ensuring the annual flag raising for the past 14 years.  END
