FIL-AM MARILY MONDEJAR AWARDED DURING WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH
At an awarding ceremony held on March 22 in San Francisco, California, Ms. Marily Mondejar, President of the Filipina Women’s Network (FWN), was recognized as a Local Hero to mark KQED’s 2012 Women’s History Month. The other three (3) award recipients were Ms. Rhodessa Jones (Co-Artistic Director, Cultural Odyssey; and Artistic Director, Medea Project); Dr. Raye Mitchelle (Chief Social Entrepreneur, the new Reality Foundation; and Founder, GURLS Rock Leadership Foundation); and Ms. Kemba Shakur (Executive Director, Urban Releaf).
Ms. Mondejar was acknowledged for her advocacy against domestic violence and trafficking of Filipina women and for her work in promoting women leadership in business, politics and all other fields.
“Ms. Mondejar has certainly brought pride to our community and I hope that this will inspire our Kababayans to follow their passions and actively contribute to the development of our communities, both here in the US and in the Philippines,” said Consul General Marciano A. Paynor, Jr.
In 2010, Ms. Mondejar was chosen by the Asian Pacific Islander (API) Joint Legislative Caucus to receive the API Heritage Award for Excellence in Civil Rights. She also received, on behalf of FWN, the award for Organization of the Year at the International Women’s Day celebration of the Global Arts and Education.
