MESSAGE OF CONSUL GENERAL MARCIANO A. PAYNOR, JR. FOR THE 114th ANNIVERSARY OF THE PROCLAMATION OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE

M E S S A G E

Isa pong mainit na pagbati sa lahat ng ating mga Kababayan sa ating paggunita ng ika-114 Anibersaryo ng Proklamasayon ng Kalayaan ng Pilipinas.

Today, we join all Filipinos and those of Filipino heritage aroung the world in celebrating this landmark event in our nation’s history.  It symbolized the culmination of our forefathers’ struggles, sacrifices, and selfless desire to leave us with the legacy of a nation, give us the right to self-determination, and enables us to freely choose and chart our destiny.

This living legacy continues to be nurtured by generations of Filipinos, including those who have left the Philippines to seek fortunes in distant lands.  They have marked the world map with their talents, skills, and dedication to work, and proudly acknowledge their rich and storied heritage and ethnicity.  They continue to give back to their Motherland, and have significantly contributed to raising the quality of life of their families as well as their kababayans.

The worldwide theme for this year’s commemoration – Kalayaan: Pananagutan ng Bayan para sa Tuwid na Daan (Freedom – the Accountability of a Sovereign Nation of Responsible Citizenry) – reminds us of our shared responsibility to nurture the legacy of our freedom through the righteous path.  The theme of the Bay Area Filipino American Community’s Kalayaan 2012 celebration – A New Generation of Heores: Connect. Inspire. Empower – recognizes the vital role of younger generations of Filipinos and Filipino Americans in preserving the gains of our forefathers’ legacy.

We are confident that the new generation of heroes will be able to carry on the task of preserving our hard fought freedom. We hope that the commemoration of the proclamation of our Independence will inspire and empower them to contribute more to our nation’s unity and our country’s development.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas.  Mabuhay ang Pilipino!

MARCIANO A. PAYNOR, Jr.
