09/08/2012: UPDATE ON AND RELIEF EFFORTS FOR FLOOD VICTIMS IN THE PHILIPPINES
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco informs the public of the following update as of August 8 from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center (NDRRMC) on the effects of flooding and record levels of rainfall caused by the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Haikui.
A Total of 267, 850 families or 1,230, 813 persons are affected by the disaster and 19 people have been reorted dead. Mandy of the deceased perished in a landside incident caused by heavy rains in the commonwealth, Quezon City area.
The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Haikul located 300 kilometers Northeast of Taiwan brought heavy to intense and frequent rains over Luzon since August 6.
As of August 8, the Southwest Monsoon will continue to bring heavy rains over Luzon, including Metro Manila and provinces of Ilocos, La Union, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Lagina, Batangas and the National Capital Region (NCR). Weather is expected to gradually improve by August 9.
