The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco attended the Solano County Fair on 31 July 2016, an event that is annually held at the Solano County Fairgrounds.

The Philippines was one of the countries featured in the Cultural Pavilion.  Filipino handicrafts, national costumes, a Sarao jeepney and other tourist attractions were on display for the 40,000 visitors who attended the event.

Deputy Consul General Jaime Ramon T. Ascalon, along with Mrs. Cecile G. Ascalon and their son Andre, as well as officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate, attended the event, at the invitation of Ms. Norma Placido, President of the Filipino Community of Solano County, Inc., and Ms. Eloise Scott, stalwart leaders of the Filipino-American Community in Solano County.

The Consulate’s Tourism Office provided the pull up banners used at the Cultural Pavilion, featuring the Department of Tourism’s “Visit the Philippines Again 2016” slogan.

The five-day event featured a Mad Hatter Parade, a junior livestock auction, carnival rides, performances, a sports arena and pavilions designed to showcase the diversity, culture and talent of Solano County’s residents.

Solano County is home to some 53,000 Filipinos, making up 12% of the population of the County.  It is through the efforts of the Filipino Community of Solano Country, Inc., and the pro-active Filipino-American Community that the Philippines is well represented every year at the County Fair. END
