29/03/2017: CONSUL GENERAL HENRY S. BENSURTO, JR. VISITS UC BERKELEY FOR THE PILIPINO AMERICAN ALLIANCE (PAA) GENERAL MEETING

In line with the Consulate’s thrusts to Spark* Connect* Empower* the Filipino-American Community, particularly the youth and millennials, Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr. was guest speaker at the Pilipino American Alliance (PAA) in UC Berkeley’s General Meeting held at the Moffit Library on Thursday, 16 March 2017.

At the invitation of Ms. Trisha Bantigue, a senior at the University, around 40 Berkeley students and PAA members welcomed Consul General Bensurto to their event. The Consul General explained the Consulate's mission to Spark* Connect* Empower* the Filipino-American Community, taking note of the need to connect the youth and millennials with their Filipino roots and heritage.

He encouraged the students to go beyond their homes and the University in search for their identity, and to explore what it means to be both a Filipino and an American, and the opportunities that come with being a dual citizen.

Deputy Consul General Jaime Ramon T. Ascalon answered questions on Dual Citizenship, which was brought up by one of the students at the meeting.

The event ended with an open forum where Consul General Bensurto extended an invitation for the students to engage with the Consulate in future events and projects. END
