02/06/2017: FIL-AM TONY AND GRAMMY WINNER AND FILIPINO FOOD ADVOCATE FEATURED AT LAUNCH OF PHILIPPINE CONSULATE’S HEROES 2.0 SPEAKERS’ FORUM

In an effort to promote its Spark*Connect*Empower* movement, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco launched its Bayani 2.0 Speakers’ Forum Series at the Philippine Center’s Folklife Museum last May 26. The inaugural forum featured two Filipino American Youth Leadership Program (FYLPRO) Alumni - Jhett Tolentino, a Tony and Grammy Award Winning Filipino-American producer, and Joanne Boston, the Vice President of the Filipino Food Movement.

Both speakers recounted their journeys toward fulfilling their passions in promoting art through musicals and promoting Filipino cuisine and how being Filipino was central to their success.

Joanne’s passion is to educate the world about Filipino food and provide support to Filipino chefs and restaurateurs, who are raising the profile of Filipino cuisine.

As a producer, Jhett’s passion is in the entertainment industry. During his FYLPRO Immersion, he represented Filipino actors’ equity, raising the issue of tax filing before members of the Philippine Senate. He is currently producing “Here Lies Love” in Seattle as part of his legacy project for FYLPRO.

Joanne and Jhett promoted FLYPRO and encouraged millennials to apply for the 2017 Immersion Program scheduled this October.  They also gave their full support to the Spark*Connect*Empower* movement.

Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr. called on the Filipino American Community “to support and be part of the Spark*Connect*Empower* movement.  We don’t want our Filipino culture and heritage to be lost among our younger generation of Filipino Americans in the future. I hope you will be part of the movement that would ensure our culture is passed on to the next generation,” he said.

Bayani 2.0 Speakers’ Forum is one such platform that could Spark*Connect*Empower* our Filipino American millennials. By featuring successful and highly motivated individuals to share their respective passions and aspirations, Post hopes that the forum would inspire that millennials to embrace their Filipino identity, promote Filipino culture and be an empowered member of the Filipino American community. Post intends to hold the Speakers’ Forum bi-monthly.  END
