26/06/2017: KALAYAANSF CELEBRATES 119TH ANNIVERSARY OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE WITH A CONCERT AND GALA RECEPTION, AND OUTDOOR FESTIVAL

Philippine Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr (extreme left) and KalayaanSF Chair Radi Calalang (extreme right), honor Kalayaan Heroes Ms. Eloise Scott, Ms. Lupita Aquino-Kashiwahara, Dr. Ben de Lumen, Atty. Lourdes Tancinco and Ms. Bernadette Borja-Sy for their service to the Filipino and larger Community during the Concert and Gala Reception held at Marines’ Memorial Club on 16 June 2017.

Consul General Bensurto commended the more than 400,000 Filipinos in the Bay Area that have made the “special relations between the Philippines and United States more personal”, and challenged the Community to “reach out to the millennials and next generation of Filipinos” stating that if these generations of Filipinos do not see and consider their Filipino heritage as being part of their identity, it is very possible that that our Filipino heritage may be lost one day.

San Francisco’s Union Square was saturated with Filipino talents, cuisines and products during the Outdoor Festival and Community Gathering, which was attended by 10,000 people during the day.  Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and the Ryan Cayabyab Singers headlined the 119th Philippine Independence Day Concert held at the Marines’ Memorial Theater, and the Outdoor Festival in Union Square.
